A couple of our volunteers, Lane and Dennis, made it out for an 180 mile ride from the Pickford area all the way to Cut River and places in between today, even up trail 49 from Kinross!
They definitely encountered some low hanging branches, but no major downed trees and they were surprised how well the trails have held up!
Love to see our hard working volunteers out enjoying themselves on this last official day of an amazing season!

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Halfway Lake Cottages, LLC >> When they closed the doctors offices last night because of conditions then we woke to about 6 inches of snow on top of ice, Chris decided to stay home. He spent 5 hours plowing then we went for a ride. We took 9 to Pine Stump and back and it was an amazing ride minus the sleeping child riding with me! We passed the groomer on the way there and on the way back! The picture of our backs is actually from the TASA page! Hey - it’s a family picture! 😂 #newberry #snowphotos

You may have been one of the few groups I saw today. Pretty sure I saw you on 9 today. My favorite trail in Michigan but it has taken 5 of my helmets peaks this winter. I plan on doing some brushing this summer on 9.

we rode 9 saturday and sunday it was perfect, almost doesnt need groomed , 433 and 431 were in need and 440 needs closed down all together, most everything else could use it but not bad

Last day of the official season, and oh what a season it has been!
We did see significant icing last night, followed by about 2” of snow. I’m sure the trails are icy under the snow. It looks like areas to our northwest such as Paradise and Pine Stump got mostly snow. I would imagine that there are low hanging and broken branches and downed trees in spots, but we were very fortunate based on what I have seen in the Gaylord and Alpena areas.
Please keep your eye on those clubs pages. They may need some assistance in the coming weeks. I’ll share if I hear of anything.
We got very lucky here. If you’re out and about getting those last rides in, please be safe!
Remember, trails on public lands do not close, but will not be groomed. After today, please be mindful of where you are riding to be sure you are not trespassing. We will get gates closed as soon as we can on private property.
Ride safe! Thank you to all who have visited our area and supported or local businesses, to all of our members, donors, our volunteers, and especially the landowners who so graciously allow access on their property! We appreciate you all!

Areas North of M28 got more, as usual. The snow is there. The trails are flat. We have power 🔌 TASA is out grooming according to Groomer Tracker . A sledder could have a great day riding from Mass City and north
The Portage lift bridge is already closed to cross on sleds so you would have to trailer over that to ride the Keweenaw trails but I’m sure there are some lucky snow lovers riding today

Yesterday was rain and ice most of the day! Today is wet snow/wintery mix and we've probably got about 3" inches on the ground although, hard to tell because it packs right down. It is snowing really good right now (see videos in the comments). Ice storm warning us in effect until 8pm tonight. Trail 8 is pictured off of H15. Granted some spots thin/bare with this new snow over night helped for sure. Trail 3 is the ONLY trail you can ride a sled on from April 1st on, the others close down. The water is open and the bridge is closed so you have to trailer across the Houghton Lift Bridge. Holy cow! I am blown away by how good the city trails are! They haven’t been groomed in 2 weeks and you’d never know it! The little streams near Kewadin Casino are flowing again but our snow bridges are holding! The sun is VERY warm and there will be significant melting today, but man, what a great local ride! Good morning! Well, we for sure got some freezing rain and ice, but the snow won over last night. It’s heavy wet stuff, maybe 2”, but covered up the ice that we got at least!
No power outages in the Soo that I’m aware of, and I have not heard of downed trees, though I am sure there are some. There will be more precipitation on the way. Whether it’s ice or snow remains to be seen. Right now, it’s not doing anything.
